The Goddess Block Project–Blocks 3 & 4

So, last week was just a bit crazy for me.  I was preparing to teach at Road to California and even though I did get Block 3 posted to YouTube and on my website, I did not blog about it.  So today I am blogging about Blocks 3 & 4.

Each block is designed using The Goddess Tool, it is available in a PDF form here (click on the Tool below):NIAHS-RulerTmeplate

You can always order an actual acrylic Tool on my website, Needle in a Hayes Stack.

The reason these blocks are designed using The Goddess Tool, is because there are many quilters who own this tool and I wanted to make sure you had plenty of blocks you could create.  I do not want you to think this tool is a one purpose tool.  It has many, many uses!

I also have a video about general use of The Goddess Tool, just in case you want to check out all the uses for the tool.  Click here:

The Hampton Quilt

Here it is….3791I think this is definitely one of my favorite quilts!  It is currently in the Keepsake Quilting Catalog.  They have  the pattern and kit.  It is a simply pieced quilt with some applique.  I did mine by hand (I know,  you think I am crazy).  The pattern is available in my website too (hardcopy or digital).  Click on the quilt below to go to my website.3791Hampton from Keepsake closeThe Handcrafted fabric line designed by Alison Glass is beautiful.  This line is by Andover Fabrics.handcrafted211I used 16 of the 18 prints as well as her Text print for the background.  IMG_0120_2I love this one so much, it is currently my phone case!Photo Sep 22, 10 29 08 AMI ended up with three couch pillows and another project in process.DSC_0089adjThe Hampton quilt was inspired by hotel carpet.  Scott and I were away for a weekend.  We were waiting for the elevator on the third floor.  I was staring at the floor.  Scott said “you see a quilt in the carpet, don’t you”?  He knows me so well!  That is exactly what I was seeing.  Well, the quit is named Hampton, want to guess where we were staying?DSC_0050I tried to take the quilt out to the park and get some pictures.  I am not so good with the camera.  Not sure if I will ever be.  I might need to get some help in that area.DSC_0055

Well, now you know the story of Hampton.  By the way, the wonderful modern quilting was done by Dana (check with me if you need her info, she is in Palmdale, Ca).  The quilt is out roaming in Southern California.  Maybe you will spot it in a quilt store.  If you see it, take a picture and share it with me.

It was a very interesting and amazing experience to film the instructional class.  I hope I get to do it again someday!  The people I worked with were absolutely great!4966_Marketing_Sewing_Machine_051_retouchedI learned so much about how things happen behind the camera.  _DSC1115_retouched

They really made me feel like a star!  This was on my dressing room door (how sweet).IMG_1969This was on the door to the filming studio.  They really did use a clapper board (I think that’s what you really call them).IMG_1979Here I am inside my dressing room.  I’m not very good at selfies, but I tried anyway.IMG_1089There was inspiration everywhere.  This is the fabric the curtains were made out of in my hotel room.IMG_1971This wall the wall paper.  I must admit, I starred at this for a while (thinking of quilt patterns, of course).IMG_1973I know this might seem crazy to some people, but I had never had room service before.  Well, I think I went to Denver on the first winter storm of the season.  I do not think the temp went above 20 degrees the entire time I was there.  One night after dinner, we walked to the car in –10 degrees.  I had never been in weather that cold before.  So, you can imagine that room service was quite enticing.  I was amused with the amount of ketchup that was sent up with my burger.IMG_1978When all the filming was done, I managed to get to the airport before the snow really hit, but once I was there it started coming down heavy.  IMG_1981We had to go outside to board the plane.IMG_1982I entered the plane with a little snow in my hair and on my clothes.  Then we sat for a bit (about an hour or so) while the plane was de-iced.  I have never been on a planed that needed de-icing.IMG_1983

This definitely was a trip of firsts!  Now all the editing and magic is done and the class is ready for you.  I hope you enjoy it.  I sure had fun with the whole adventure.

The Goddess Block Project–Intro and Block 1

I have something new to share!  I have decided to design and offer for FREE a block a week (for an undetermined length of time).

I have been busy, can you tell?  I plan to share on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest too!  Share with all your quilting buddies.  FREE QUILT BLOCKS

Sometimes I will give you layouts or other color options or who knows what else.  Today it is another color way.  I used Handcrafted fabrics, designed by Alison Glass for Andover Fabrics.  I will continue to use these fabrics with the Dimples background for the sample blocks.  I used the Alison Glass Text print for my alternate block (I really watched the direction of the text with this block).  I was so worried about the text direction, that this block is actually a mirror image of the block I actually designed!

Block 1 - New Year Star Block

I hope you enjoy my give-away!  Keep watching for more.  My goal is to post by midnight each Wednesday.  I am excited to see what you do with these free blocks.  Send me pictures, please!  I am also excited to see what blocks I design in the future (I have a good amount already designed, but who knows what will come later).  I must go get stitching!
