Downton Abbey–Lady Edith

1184907_10151608255198100_793796574_nLady Edith, I am lucky to have two quilts from this line of fabrics.  1186673_10151608251953100_862300130_n

These gorgeous fabrics from the upcoming Downton Abbey collection are inspired by Lady Edith, featuring avant-garde colors and patterns from the Edwardian era.  Fabrics are from Andover Fabrics.

971586_10151608252938100_1605184383_nMy first box of fabric arrived yesterday and I am working on blocks.  I am posting them on Facebook and Instagram, @NeedleinaHayesStack.  998437_10151608253003100_1894918454_nYou can follow me here, or follow me there (I feel like Dr. Suess).  Follow me, follow me anywhere.1098049_10151608252263100_146445971_n1175294_10151608252253100_1696926863_n

Now for the quilts!  This is the first one I am piecing blocks for.  It is titled “Edith’s Grand Entrance”.  This quilt will be available on the Andover Fabrics website a little later on as a FREE downloadable pattern!  I am so excited that they chose one of my quilts for this honor.  You can hashtag this one:  #EdithsGrand Entrance.  Bar Quilt - Purple & Peach 2 with cream print

This next pattern is a purchasable pattern available on my website.  Just click on the quilt itself and you will be taken right to the website.  This pattern will not ship out until October (the fabric should start arriving in stores in November).  This one is called “Fans for Edith”.  #Fans for Edith

Well, I must get back to the sewing machine so I can have something to share on social media a bit later.  I have one more Downton Abbey character to share information on and a quilt for.  So keep a watch, that info will be coming in the next day or so.  Until then,

These bold fabrics from the upcoming Downton Abbey collection are inspired by Lady Sybil, featuring geometric prints and large florals that speak to her dynamic character.  Did you know these fabulous fabrics are from Andover Fabrics?

I think these photos of the fabrics are just wonderful.  I have been looking at digital images of the fabrics and I cannot wait to have them in my hands.1005815_10151624722968100_1415430160_n1009855_10151624723063100_1083369530_n

Ok, are you ready to see what I did with them?  This quilt is named Sybil’s Spires.  For you social girls:  #SybilsSpiresQuilt

Sybil's Spires

I am sure that it will be wonderful when it is an actual quilt not a virtual quilt.

All of my Downton Abbey quilts will be available on my website.  The patterns are currently in the hands of the most wonderful pattern proofer in the world, Michelle.

Since the fabric is not arriving in the stores until November, the patterns are still in the works.  This stuff takes time, you know?

I have more to share, so…

Here is a sneak peek.  I quote Andover here, “These stunning fabrics from our upcoming Downton Abbey collection are inspired by Lady Mary, featuring jewel tones and patterns that showcase her style”.

There are mood boards for each character, here is Lady Mary’s board:

They did such an awesome job of capturing each character.  I have a box of fabric on its way to my studio.  I have been cleaning and organizing and just plain getting ready for the fabric arrival.  It is due here by the end of day tomorrow!  At that point I will tear open the box and share the fabrics right away.  For now, would you like a peek at what I shall create with Lady Mary’s fabric?  Well, all right then…Regal Mary          This in just a digital image, but before long I will be playing in the fabric.  I have named this quilt Regal Mary.  For those of you using social media (namely Instagtram) this one is #regalmaryquilt.  I hope to share many photos on Instagram and Facebook as well as my blog.  Follow along, it will be fun!  I will try to get the patterns up on my website soon, always so much to accomplish.  Well, I must work quick, I have so much to do before Quilt Market.

Gotta go to work for the day, Bolts in the Bathtub, see you there!

Downton Abbey Quilts!

Oh do I have some fun news!

Downton Abbey Header

I have been creating quilts using the Downton Abbey fabric that will be heading into quilt stores this November.  Are you a Downton Abbey addict?  If not, you have plenty of time to watch the previous 3 seasons before the next season airs.

Downton_Abbey

I have created 6 quilts for Andover Fabric and the lines associated with the show!  This has been exciting and crazy.  I did my research (Pinterest, really) and tried to create quilts that could have been designed in the early 1900’s.  I will be sharing these quilt over my next few bog posts.

The fabric lines are designated by the character they represent.  There are mood boards for each (I will share those too).  There are lines for Lady Mary, Lady Edith, Lady Sybil, Dowager Countess and a group of fabrics that work with each of the characters.  Let’s start with the quilt that has fabrics in it from each of those women.

Downton Mood Boards - Non-CharacterThis quilt is named:  “Ladies of Downton Abbey”.                           The quilt measures72” x 85”.

Ladies of Downton AbbeyThe fabric is due to arrive in my studio this coming Thursday.  I plan to share through blog, Facebook and Instagram (#LadiesofDowntonAbbey) as I create each of the quilts I will be working on.  The quilts I make will be at Quilt Market (I hope to be there too) as well as part of traveling trunk shows that will visit quilt stores all over the country.  Soooo exciting!!!

So tomorrow, I will give you a look at Lady Mary’s Quilt.

For now I need to clean up my studio so I can be ready for a quilt piecing marathon (do you realize Quilt Market is at the end of October)!.  Oh my!!

Liberty Block Workshop

I really had a great time yesterday as the teacher for the Los Angles County Quilt Guild. Let me start by sharing some of the great fabric combos my wonderful students brought to work with.

I love them all. I think I missed a couple of fabric combos (bummer). Just about everyone got the first block made. I am told they will send me pictures of finished projects next month. I can't wait to see them and then share those pictures on the blog.

Just look at these ladies working...

Someone from the guild was kind and gave me a copy of the article that was published in the local paper. How nice is this?

I really had a great time, but there's no place like home. I sure am glad I live outside of the big city. I am not real fond of LA traffic.

Well, that's it for tonight. I have some exciting news to share in my next blog post, so stay tuned, and

Los Angeles County Quilt Guild

This morning was fun-filled for me! I got to share my quilts at the Los Angeles County Quilt Guild. I had about 45 minutes to share 20+ years of quilting. I brought a lot of quilts (it was a trunk show for goodness sake). That's what quilters come for, right? To see many, many quilts. So today I shared those quilts, shared from my heart and shared a few give-aways (courtesy of Andover Fabrics). I only took the picture above (I must get better at that).

Tomorrow I have a workshop scheduled and I will definitely try to get some more photos. Always striving to be better, that's life right?

Ok, blog at you later,

Speaking and Teaching!

I want to share an exciting adventure I am starting!

Tomorrow I will be the guest speaker at the Los Angeles County Quilters Guild.  I started to plan for this about 12 years ago.  I decided that when my children reached young adulthood I could go out and speak and teach and guilds and quilt stores.

Here I am!  Nervous, but prepared for a 1 hour lecture.

My lecture title is:  Confessions of a True Quilt Addict!

If you know me at all, I live this title.  I really am a quilt addict, so wish me luck!  I think it will be busy and crazy tomorrow, but I will try to snap some pictures and share them in a blog tomorrow.

Well, blog at you soon!

Visiting French General?

I was out and about traveling today with Dawna & Fay. They decided to take me on a detour on the way home from Anaheim.
We stopped by French General....
With much sadness I report that they are closed on Mondays.
The lights were off and this is what we found on the door:
So sad.
Check them out online.
