Mix It Up Quilt Along - Block 4

Wow!
I do not know about you, but these weeks seem to be zooming by!

Let's get to the good stuff, Block 4...

I have made this block with my NEW Mini Goddess Tool.

This is a sneak peek at the Mini Goddess Tool.

You can make your own tool or just check out
more about the tool by downloading the file below:

It does some really great things (very small).
Half Square Triangles, Quarter Square Triangles,
Tall Triangles, Half Tall Triangles and Corner Cut Aways.
Each shape finishes at 2", 1 1/2" or 1".

There is a lot going on.

Want to watch a video?
Here is the original Goddess Tool.

This block is made using the
Half Square Triangle and the Corner Cut Away.

Here is a link to the Fabric Requirements:
 Block 4

Now for some pictures to show you how to cut for this block.

Line up the Mini Goddess Tool on a 2 1/2" strip of fabric
using the Half Square Triangle portion of the tool.

Cut the triangle.
The blunt edge of the tool will be at the top of the fabric strip.

Continue cutting triangles down the fabric strip
until you have the number of triangles listed
in the Fabric Requirements.

Now, trim off the remaining "Dog Ear" from each triangle.

I cut fabric to make 2 of these blocks for the Mix It Up Quilt.

Assemble the Lagoon pieces with the
small background square as shown below.

Us the Small Corner Cut Away to remove a triangle shape
from each corner of the Lagoon Square.

Some how I did not get a picture of the next step,
but you can now place a 2 1/2" Half Square Triangle
on each corner of the block and stitch it.

This is what makes the "Snowball" corners.

Make the Flying Geese Units
using the Stitch & Flip method.
I have described that in earlier blogs about the Mix It Up quilt.

Assemble the Block!

Whew!

Mix It Up Quilt Along - Block 3

Well, hello again!

It is Week 3!

This week each designer is to share the first of their own blocks.

So here is mine:

I did not give this block a name, but I would love to hear your suggestions.
Click below to download the Fabric Requirements to make one block.
I put three of these blocks in my version of the quilt.

Here is my fabric, cut and ready to assemble my three blocks.

Starting with the center (the pinwheel part)
I drew a line down the center of the Plum and Background squares.

Stitched 1/4" on either side of the drawn line.

Cut on the drawn line.

That will give me two Half Square Triangles.
I need four for each block.

On to the Flying Geese.
Draw that diagonal line again.

Sew right on that line and then trim 1/4" from the line as shown below.

Press.

Draw.

Sew and cut.

Press, you know this, right?

Tad-ah! A Flying Geese Unit.
I need four for each block.

Now, lay it out, and put it together!
Great job!

This block is easy peasy.

Now it's your turn.
