A Long Day

Scott and I traveled today.  We went to a funeral for the Mom of his friend Bob.  Bob and Jen are the sweetest couple.  Many years ago Jen asked about a quilt for their house.  I gave her this one.  I think she has had it on display ever since.  It made my heart sing today to see it in her dining room.  IMG_1508It was a long day.  It rained, hailed and even snowed on us today.  We traveled the crazy road home during Friday night traffic.  I am such a wimp about traffic.  I thought I would accomplish a great amount upon arriving home, but no!  I am one tired chick!  So I will show you some of what I was working on prior to today.  This is once again a secret project…

DSC06855I do need to put the rest of the binding on the star quilt and tack down the sleeve.  I will show it for the first time at a Ladies Tea tomorrow and sell tickets for chances.  I will try to remember to take some pictures at the Tea and share them.

There was a box of fabric for me when I arrived home.  This beautiful stack is called Amethyst and is from Exclusively Quilters.  I will cut and stitch and assemble it into a quilt.  This one I can share as the process occurs.DSC06856There was also some white fabric in the box to go with the batiks you may notice from an earlier picture.  These need to become a nice large quilt too!

DSC06857Just in case you thought I was slacking or getting bored (which I do not do, Mom always said she could find a job for me if I was bored so I don’t let that happen) I am part of a group at Bolts in the Bathtub that is planning to start a group to make 2 blocks a month from The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt.  I think I will be picking the first 2 blocks, and I have.  I can’t share which ones I pick until late March, but this should be fun!DSC06858

Ok, gotta go get that binding finished up!

Catching Up?

I am not sure if I am catching up or getting further behind.  February is already a crazy month, and it just started.  This picture pretty much explains my life…DSC068501There are a few other things happening, like ripping out beautiful dense quilting.  I have this really big quilt (108” x 108”), sent it off to Vickie for quilting.  She was 3 rows in when she discovered I had a section sewn in WRONG!  All the quilting needed to come out and then I have to rip out the incorrect area and get it back together and back to Vickie.  I need to get this one to Seattle mid February.  YIKES!  I have ripped, Vickie’s daughter Allison ripped, my friend Sheryl ripped and I’m back at it again.  Ripping is awful!  Creating is way more fun!  At least we have a brand new big TV as of yesterday, now I can watch TV (not usually me) and Rip, Rip, Rip!DSC06849I do need to squeeze in some time to machine quilt and bind the Star Quilt.  There is a Ladies Tea February 9th and I need to be there with this quilt to sell tickets (by the way, I cannot find the tickets, might have to get them printed by Saturday as well).DSC06848

Just a commercial break….

This is Ollie, and he was fast asleep just like this.  Crazy Cat!DSC06847

Now for some sneak peeks…

This fabric is almost a quilt top, it is not ready for sharing just yet.  No worries, I will share when I can.DSC06851DSC06852This stack needs to be a quilt soon.  One again, I will share when I can. This is a basket block.  I will be appliqueing it when the ripping is done.  It is another secret.  I have so many things I cannot share just yet, but when the time is right you will see them all.DSC06854

I have been needing to blog, but with so many things under wraps it is hard to give any eye candy.  Catching Up?  I don’t know, I sure am busy creating!  My house looks like it too (no picture of the house, that would just be wrong).

Well, I hope you are busy creating too, and for now…

Oh My! Stars on My Design Wall!

I am busy making stars for the annual quilt I make each year.  This quilt will be raffled and all proceeds will benefit the Antelope Valley Pregnancy Counseling Center.  I have been doing this for a few years now.  Always stars, different stars!DSC06709This year I located this star block in one of the 100 Quilt Blocks magazines.  I have decided to make 20 blocks.  Wow, these are labor intensive.  First, I choose colors for the block and cut what I need.  Then I sew them together, one block at a time (I have 9 done, 11 to go)!

Here is a close up of my favorite set of colors so far…DSC06710

Much more to do.  On a side note, the water pipes froze last night, so since I cannot cook, do dishes or laundry…  it’s a great day to make Star Blocks!

Where am I? At my Sewing Machine!

Well, really I am blogging (wink, wink), but I should be at my sewing machine, and I will!DSC06707

What is that strange foot on the machine?  It’s a Walking Foot!  Why?  To do stitch in the ditch! I really don’t like doing stitch in the ditch, but there is a time and a place and apparently that is now and here!

This quilt belongs to my friend, Dawna, over at Stitches from the Tub.  She has challenged me to do more than my all over meander.  So I am starting with that walking foot and then I will move on to some fancy stuff.  What you ask?  I have no idea yet!

DSC06708

I will have to share those pictures when I get there.  As of now, it is a mystery to us all.   Ha Ha.  Stay tuned.  I am sure Dawna will have awesome pictures of the finished quilt as well as a tutorial on the pattern.

Nick Took Over My Quilt Space!

Last night it froze in the Antelope Valley.  Nick was out late.  When he jumped on his bike to head to our house he heard and felt the seat crack under him.  At first he thought it was a layer of ice, but nope!  That poor old seat just couldn’t take the weather any longer!

So now what to do? Well, I started to look for new seats online.  Yikes!  $200 +

That won’t work right now.  Re-upholster?  Not sure about that idea either.  Nick said he may just have to resort to duct tape.  I suggested sheets of duct tape.  Well, that’s where the adventure really took shape.  We headed out, first to Taco Bell (gotta get my fix), then to Michaels.  We located the duct tape display and what does my boy pick?  Pink Zebra!  4 sheets should do…DSC06695He spread it out and started to pieced it together, trying to match up the design.DSC06696He put all 4 sheets together with a little overlap and started to devise a plan.  Scott stopped by and suggested the use of a blow dryer to help stretch the duct tape over the seat.DSC06697Here is Nick, getting mentally prepared!  Can you see the gears working in his brain as he plans out the next move?

Going for it…

DSC06699Ta Daa!  Seat complete!DSC06703Here it is mounted back on the bike!  Actual work time @ 50 minutes!  Now to ride!!DSC06704

I am linking this project to Between Naps on the Porch Before and After Mondays!

I know this post is a bit crazy, but so is my life!  Always fun to share the crazy stuff!

BlockBase Sew Along – Block 5 Link Up!

So much to do…

and I decide to work on the Block for the Block Base sew along!  I now have Block 1 and Block 5!Block 5

Here is my version on Block 5.  This is actually Block #1755.  I started with 8” blocks, so with 8” blocks I shall continue.  This block is based on 9-patch design, which means it does not come out very nice in the math category.  I printed out Foundation Pattern Templates, this means I paper pieced this block (not my favorite way to make a simple block, but the only accurate way when the math is not right).

I placed the block in an on point setting added some sashing, corner stones and borders and here is my creation.  I rather like it!

Block 5 Quilt

I do have to go to work this afternoon, so I shall just give this quick glimpse into this mornings creations and move along.

So, I must blog at you later,

I Think I’ve Been Bitten!!

Bitten by the embroidery bug!

Oh, what have I done?DSC06627Once you start, well.. when does it stop?DSC06646I am guessing never!  I have been crazily (is that even a word) creating the pieces for Villages.  I am creating Churches & Bakery’s & Victorian Styles Houses.  I am sort of a construction worker (you think)?DSC06626Not so sure about the assembly process.  I will have to let you know how that goes later.DSC06628Here is one church.  My beautiful Lindsay started to assemble the first of my pieces.  What a sweetie-pie.

I have to give credit to my friend, Peggy, for this new found addiction. Peggy is my enabler!

I have been asked lately what I have been up to.  Now you know!  Of course, I have a few other things going on as well.  More of that later.  At this point I am just trying to re-enter the blogging world.  It’s always hard to do it all, do I create or do I blog?  Well, I kinda need to create before I can blog, but to find time to do it all is beyond me.  I sure wish I could learn to go without sleep, but that just doesn’t seem to work for me.  So, all I can do now is tell you I will try to be better at posting, we will see how that goes.  Thanks for checking in on me,
